Reflecting at the end of the course.

Here we are at the end of the course...you have made a variety of different kinds of drawings and paintings over the past few months. How would you sum up your artistic experience this term? On your blog share what have you discovered and learned about:
  • the world of drawing and painting in general.
  • your technical abilities in drawing and painting.
  • your interests in terms of subject matter and content...what you have to say as an artist.
Be as specific as you can and use examples from the work you've made to support your ideas.

Artist-in-Residence: Alexander DeMaria

This week artist Alexander DeMaria will be visiting Beaver.

He will be giving a talk about his work in Bradley Hall during X Block on Wednesday and in The Nancy Lincoln Gallery for the opening of his exhibit of Thursday from 12-1.
Please be sure to attend both events.

To prepare to do so, click HERE, and spend 5-10 minutes taking a look at Alex's work on his website.

On your blog, write a brief response to the work you see and develop a question you'd like to Alex in person..."extra points" if you actually ask him and report back in your post.

Reflecting on Feedback

Today you got some feedback from your classmates.
On your blog take 5 minutes to reflect on what they told you.
Do you agree or disagree with what they think about your work?
What do you think is a strength of your drawings?

Drawing from observation skills.

We've covered a lot of territory in our first two and a half weeks together.
Take a look at the drawings you've made so far and think about the skills it took to create them.
On your blog describe several of these skills (at least 3) and how you put them to use in your drawings.

Collaborative Drawing.

Today you worked on other people's drawings and other people worked on your drawing.
Take a moment to reflect on how it felt to work this way and then answer the following questions on your blog.
Be specific in your response.
Be thoughtful.
Be thorough.

How did you "deal" with each drawing you approached?
What was the process for "correcting" what you saw?

How did it feel to return to your drawing at the end and to see what others had done to it?
What did you have to do to finish your drawing?

Pre-assessment

You made two drawings in class today...one from observation and one from your imagination.
On YOUR blog describe which one felt more natural to you and why.
